How Knowlton brought Airalo’s
 ‘Airport Dad’ to the world

TV Ads

What We’ve Achieved
for Airalo

Behind The Scenes

Quick Summary: Key Contributions by Knowlton

Introduction

Airalo, the world’s first eSIM store, needed a bold, relatable, and globally scalable campaign to elevate brand awareness across multiple territories.

After reviewing creative proposals, Airalo selected Knowlton’s ‘Airport Dad’ concept, a playful, highly relatable idea that resonated universally. So much so that Airalo briefed some of their internal teams and external agencies worldwide to align around it.

Our role was to bring this campaign to life through high-impact TV ads, platform-specific social assets, and strategic creative that could scale internationally, all under tight timelines, and against some of the biggest agencies in the industry.

The Challenge

Launching a campaign of this scale and complexity involved tackling several key challenges:

Delivering a premium TV ads adaptable across multiple languages and markets.

Managing unpredictable tropical weather during an overseas shoot.

Finding a location that was visually stunning, logistically feasible, and weather-safe.

Shooting in a way that enabled multiple cut-downs for digital and social platforms.

Retaining audience attention across fast-paced, competitive digital environments.

Winning and maintaining client trust, having beaten leading London agencies to secure the project.

This wasn’t just a creative challenge,  it demanded operational excellence, strategic foresight, and detailed contingency planning.

The Solution

To overcome these challenges, Knowlton implemented a multi-layered creative and production strategy focused on storytelling, scalability, and executional excellence. To overcome these challenges, Knowlton implemented a multi-layered creative and production strategy focused on storytelling, scalability, and executional excellence.

A Big Idea Built for Global Scale

The ‘Airport Dad’ concept tapped into the universal travel stress many experience at airports, delivered with warmth, humour, and a TikTok-inspired cultural edge. Its strength? It could flex across TV, social, and out-of-home, while remaining authentic in every market.

Precision Production in the Bahamas

We selected the Bahamas for its breathtaking beaches, accessible infrastructure, and (mostly) reliable climate. Even when tropical storms hit, our pre-planned contingencies kept production on track.

  • 6-day shoot covering four languages: English, German, Italian, French.
  • 27+ person international crew.
  • Comprehensive pre-production bible covering every detail from sun position to crowd flow.
  • Modular shooting strategy to enable rapid multi-platform edits.

Multi-Platform, Multi-Language Content Creation

Every second of filming was designed to serve multiple purposes:

  • 30-second and 20-second TV ads for each language market.
  • Cutdowns for YouTube, Instagram, Facebook in 16:9, 1:1, and 9:16 formats.
  • Photos for out-of-home creative assets.
  • Short-form edits optimised for social retention performance.

Relentless Focus on Craft and Client Experience

  • Partnered with local production specialists for faster, smarter location scouting.
  • Anticipated sunlight shifts and crowd movements to protect shoot continuity.
  • Built a calm, professional environment for cast, crew, and clients, leading to feedback of “zero percent stress” from the client team.

Lessons Learned

Strong ideas beat big agency reputations. Creativity
and strategic relevance are what win pitches.

Prepare for chaos. Build flexibility into your schedules
and your mindset.

Invest in retention, not just reach. Modular content strategies drove double the retention performance.

Obsess over details. Weather shifts, sunlight, tourist patterns, the boring stuff matters massively.

Trust builds through calm execution. Stress-free clients are the result of meticulous preparation and experience.

Outcomes & Results

‘Airport Dad’ is now Airalo’s flagship global marketing campaign.

TV ads produced in multiple languages and successfully adapted across multiple territories.

TV ad airing 400+ times per day across major UK broadcasters.

Full suite of social and digital content adapted for multi-platform distribution.

Early data shows Knowlton’s creative approach doubled audience retention compared to the brand’s previous larger campaign.

The Conclusion

The Airalo ‘Airport Dad’ campaign stands as a defining moment for Knowlton, proving that bold creativity, precision execution, and strategic content design can achieve global impact.

We didn’t just create an ad; we delivered a campaign that scaled across markets, doubled retention performance,
and built brand trust at every touchpoint.

And while seeing the TV ads air 400+ times per day at points is incredible, the real achievement is the foundation of client trust, creative excellence, and operational mastery that will fuel even greater campaigns to come.
